Electric Guitar Lessons For Beginners

Before we get into Electric Guitar Lessons for Beginners here is a brief history:-

The Electric guitar is the "jonny-come-lately" of the guitar world. It has only been with us for just over 70 years. For example the Acoustic and Classical guitars have been around for a long, long time - far longer than the Electric guitar. The electric guitar was 'born" in the 1930"s. The creator of the original electric guitar was Adolf Rickenbacker

When first conceived, electric guitars used tungsten pickups. These converted the vibration of the strings into electric current. This current is then fed into the amplifier to produce the sound. By using pickups it was possible to create guitars without soundholes (which acoustic and classical guitars have) that had the ability to be heard, when plugged into amplifiers. These are called solid body guitars.

It was during the 1930's and 40's that the music of the Big Bands began to flourish. At that time the jazz bands had loud brass sections which meant the guitars of the day were barely audible. But having the ability of its sound to be amplified, the electric guitar came into its own. From that time on the electric guitar's popularity has increased enormously and continues to do so to this day.

It was in 1941, that the late great guitarist Les Paul invented the solid body guitar - a guitar made of solid rectangular block of wood with no sound holes. Over time the rectangular shape has evolved into a more rounded shape the exists even to this day.

Then, during the 1950s, the Gibson company released the Les Paul guitar to the world. The Gibson Les Paul guitar, as it was, and still is, known today, quickly became a very popular electric guitar. It dominated that market having remained the most popular guitar for 50 years.

It was also in the "famous forties" that, another inventor named Leo Fender produced a solid body guitar of his own. In the late 1940s, Fender introduced the Fender Broadcaster Electric guitar. The Broadcaster, later renamed the Stratocaster, was officially released to the public in 1954. The Strat, as it is now known, was a very different guitar compared to the" Les Paul". It had a different shape, different hardware and was significantly lighter. Fender's Stratocaster guitar is the second most popular guitar in the world, second to only the Les Paul. It is indeed a very fine instrument.
