The world is a smaller place than ever before, cheap airline travel has completely changed the way that we live and work with places that were barely known of a twenty years ago now becoming major tourist hotspots.

Whilst cheap air travel has enabled us to make more of our money (in terms of pennies to miles) than ever before, recent events have led to suggestions that the boom may be over. Whilst aviation is as popular as ever before, rising fuel prices and pressure from environmental sectors has seen airlines forced to pay higher taxes than ever before.

Airport parking has always been expensive, and with the recent sale of Gatwick Airport, some experts are predicting that there will be an increase in the cost of parking at Gatwick, which will then have a knock on effect on the other airports. If youre determined to travel by car, make sure that you book your airport parking space well in advance to get the cheapest deal.

Another way that airlines, and airports, are looking to make money is in smaller departments. Things like charging for the use of a trolley in certain airports, or charging severe penalties for those who exceed their baggage allowance. The airlines are strict but fair, but even a few grams can be expensive, so if you want to save money, make sure that you know how much your luggage weighs before you head for the airport.

Also, make sure that you book your ticket (and a car parking space if you're going to get the car) as early as possible. Many airlines operate a system where the first however many tickets costs a certain amount, and then the next however many cost more. That means the earlier you are, the cheaper your tickets.

Another expense, albeit one that is not really the fault of the airlines, is the cost of getting to the airport itself. Whilst with driving you have to deal with petrol and parking charges, even if you take the coach or the train it can be quite expensive. One way to make a saving here is to take the EasyBus rather than a more traditional service.

EasyBus tickets start at as little as £2, although thats only for the first few tickets on each ride. There are also a limited number of places, although the service is regular. It has the distinct advantage of having someone else worry about getting you to the airport, and also that you are taken right up to the front door, so you dont need to walk miles with your luggage.

Perhaps the best thing about EasyBus is that you dont need to be travelling with EasyJet (theyre owned by the same company) to buy a ticket. Regardless of who youre travelling with its always important to make your money go as far as possible, and if youre organised and book well in advance, the EasyBus can definitely help you do that.
