How Blinds Win Over Curtains

It was not so long ago that most people would automatically choose curtains for each window in their home; they seemed to be the only viable option.  Other window coverings were harder to get hold of and there seemed to be very little choice in terms of colour or design.  But things have moved on since then and it is all a very different story today.

Curtains are no longer the only real choice and many people are actually going out of their way to avoid using them in their homes at all.  We all know how nice they can look, but they actually involve a lot of hard work. Blinds are rapidly becoming far more popular and it is not difficult to see why.

Life seems to be getting more and more hectic every day and most people will want as little housework to do as possible.  And that is the biggest reason for less curtains being sold these days.  Looking nice at a window is one thing, but keeping them that way is quite another.  If you have curtains in your home at the moment them you will understand just how big a task it is to get them washed.  Firstly you have the rigmarole of taking them down and of removing each of the small fittings.  Okay, so putting them in the washing machine is straightforward enough, but it doesn’t end there...

Once washed, they need to be dried and this is where the problems start.  On a bright summer’s day it is a simple matter of pegging them out on the line, but the Great British weather is not well known for a large number of sunny periods!  If you can’t dry them outdoors, then you will find it quite a struggle.  Curtains are very large when they are opened out, especially from bigger windows.  And after this palaver, you will still have to get them ironed; which is another major job in itself.

On the other hand, Blinds are incredibly practical and they require a minimum amount of care.  Dusting or wiping them over on a fairly regular basis is the most work you will have and you will not have to dismantle them to do it!  Once fitted, they can be left exactly where they are.  The only time they will need to be moved is if you have any decorating to do.

Another reason for curtains no longer ruling the market is that blinds are now available in a huge variety of designs.  The days of having a choice of ‘Venetian’ or ‘Venetian’ are long gone; ranges are now comprised of many different styles.  There are contemporary designs for modern homes and more traditional ones that are more in keeping with older properties.

The choice of window fittings has changed dramatically over the years and customers are now able to have the very best of both worlds in their home; something that is both pleasing to the eye and incredibly simple to maintain.
